About the Salisbury, UK weather station

This site publishes live readings from a weather station in Salisbury, UK. The dashboard readings are as follows: air temperature, humidity, rainfall, wind speed and direction, and barometric pressure.

The equipment

Readings come from a Davis Vantage Pro Integrated Sensor Suite: a tipping-bucket rain gauge, an anemometer and wind vane, and a shielded temperature and humidity sensor. The station broadcasts its measurements over a low-power radio link.

Rather than a Davis console, those transmissions are picked up directly by a software-defined radio (an RTL-SDR dongle) attached to a Raspberry Pi, decoded by rtldavis, and logged by WeeWX. The Pi records a data point every five minutes, builds the pages you are reading, and publishes them.

What updates, and how often

The archive records a reading every five minutes, and the dashboard fetches fresh figures every couple of minutes without reloading the page, so a tab left open keeps itself current. The rainfall radar is a separate live layer from RainViewer, animated over roughly the last hour with a short forecast.
